María Carmen Graña, known professionally as María Graña, was born on June 16, 1953, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is an Argentine tango and bolero singer. Graña began studying singing at the age of 12 under Elvira Aquilano. Her breakthrough came in 1970 when she won first prize on the television program Canta el pueblo with "La canción de Buenos Aires". In 1973, Osvaldo Pugliese invited her to join his orchestra. Her first solo album, La gran tanguista, was released in 1975 following a successful tour in Colombia. Graña gained international recognition as part of the original cast of the stage show Tango Argentino, performing in Paris and New York. She won three Premios Carlos Gardel and multiple Premios Konex.
