The Dossier saga is the end of a chapter. For your Eyes Only...
Yaw Faso’s upbringing was brimmed with an abundance of creative influences. With two creatively inclined and expressive parents, Yaw was encouraged to participate and pursue his creative hobbies and endeavours. Growing up his mother listened to an array of music from around the world and his father, originally from Ghana, brought his love for music with him to Australia and was a drummer and percussionist in some of Australia’s first African and reggae bands, who introduced never before heard sounds in Australia, as they showcased the rich sounds of Highlife, Afrobeat, Soukous, Calypso and Reggae.
Inspired by his West African roots and early exposure to sounds from the Caribbean, Yaw produces a sonic flavour consisting largely of Afro-Fusion, Dancehall and Pop, while also experimenting with elements of other international flavours. Although Yaw showcases sounds that are of an inspired nature from boarders beyond Australia, these sounds are very much becoming more and more familiar to today’s current, eclectic and evolving Australian culture. Yaw’s versatility has allowed him to explore vocally and rhythmically, which has seen him develop a unique style.
Yaw Faso has collaborated with an array of Australian and international artists and producers, namely; MC Ig (Brazil), Djay W (Brazil), MC Jessi (Brazil), Machinedrum (USA), MC Luki (Brazil), Dun D (UK), Kilter (AUS) and JessB (NZ). A powerful live presence has seen Yaw grace the stage at various Festivals and events, including support slots for a range of local and international names such as Kranium, Nasty C, Konshens, Eddy Kenzo, Jose Chameleone, Big Zeeks, Baker Boy and JessB.
Having caught the attention of tastemakers across the globe, there seems to be no signs of slowing down, as Yaw Faso looks to create versatile and boundary breaking projects in the coming years.
