Marika Ninou, born Evangelia Atamian in 1922 on board the ship Evangelistria, was a Greek-Armenian singer. She began her musical journey at age seven by learning the mandolin and singing at an Armenian church in Néa Kokkinia, Greece. In 1948, Ninou started her professional career with recordings under Manolis Chiotis. Her breakthrough came when she collaborated with Vassilis Tsitsanis at Fat Jimmy's club from 1949 onwards, leading to significant success in the Greek music scene. In 1951, Ninou performed with Tsitsanis in Istanbul but later separated professionally. Despite battling cancer, she continued performing until her death on February 23, 1957. Her legacy included a total of 174 recorded songs and the film Rembetiko (1983), based on her life.
