Biography

Roberto Antonio Pérez Herrera, widely recognized by his stage name Rubby Pérez, is a Dominican merengue singer. He was born on March 8, 1956, in Bajos de Haina, Dominican Republic. Initially dreaming of a career in baseball, a life-altering car accident redirected his path towards music. Rubby Pérez honed his craft at the National Conservatory of Santo Domingo, eventually joining school groups like the Choir Youth Guidance Society and The Youth of Bani in 1978, and later Los Hijos del Rey. His breakthrough came when he joined Wilfrido Vargas' orchestra between 1982 and 1986, lending his voice to hits such as "El Africano" and "Volveré." Embarking on a solo career in 1987, Rubby Pérez achieved immediate success with his studio debut Buscando Tus Besos, released in 1987. The next year, he released Fiesta Para Dos, which included the smash single "Enamorado de Ella." Over the course of the following decades, Rubby Pérez continued to charm the Latin music scene with singles like "Sobreviviré" and albums such as Amores Extraños (1995) and No Te Olvides (1998). In 1999, he released the album Vuelve el Merengue, featuring the smash hit "Tú Vas A Volar." Subsequent releases over the 2000s were similarly successful. In 2022, after over a decade without new output, he released his twelfth solo album, Hecho Está.
