Ekelle is an artist and songwriter from Toronto. She creates music in a style called Hood Pop - Popular music with a street edge. Hood Pop combines elements of hip hop, pop, and R&B. Ekelle loves to candidly rap out her life and/or play with metaphor and simile as she sings. She’s performed at events like Afrofest, the Durham Caribbean Festival, and Northern Touch Music Festival. Singles off her EP, Hood Pop were featured on blogs like Exclaim, EARMILK, The Hype Magazine, and FOMO. In 2020 she performed for GTA Pride, Nuit Blanche, Radio Humber, a collaboration show between ArtStarts, RISE, and RBC, and was signed to Motive Music Canada. In 2021 Ekelle was a featured artist at Indie Week and NATIONxNATION, received her first FACTOR grant and completed the DMMI program with TMU. In 2022 Ekelle released her debut album ‘Let’s Get It’ and was supported by FACTOR and the Unison fund. Ekelle’s greatest achievement that year was being signed to Cymba Music Publishing which has secured her great sync opportunities with ZARA, The Stanley Cup Playoffs, Hudson and Rex, and more. In 2023 Ekelle was accepted as an artist in the RBC Launchpad Music Entrepreneurship Program.
