Helge Schneider is popular German musician, actor, author and comedian. He was born in Mülheim an der Ruhr in 1955 and started out his adult life as a draughtsman in the construction industry. A change of heart saw him return to college and, after passing an entrance exam, he began studying piano at the Duisburg conservatory.
Schneider is a gifted musician and is equally at home playing drums, piano, Hammond organ, saxophone, cello, guitar and a host of other instruments and this ability is used to great effect during his live shows.
During the 1990s he began to concentrate on a career in comedy and even today is one of Germany's best-known comics. He has also developed an acting career and in 2007 played the lead role of Adolf Hitler in the satirical comedy drama 'My Führer - The Really Truest Truth About Adolf Hitler'.
With a recording catalogue of some thirty albums, Schneider is best known for his song 'Katzenklo', a comedy number about litter trays which he recorded in 1994. The track spent 17 weeks in the charts peaking at number 13 and is one of Schneider's most successful recordings.
