Maxi Göthling is a self-taught composer and musician from Germany. Her style ranges from post-classical pieces to contemporary video game-inspired orchestral music, often with an experimental touch. The one thing all of her work has in common is an extreme emotional depth that paints vivid pictures in musical form - as exemplified in her 2019 debut album Storyteller.
Influenced by her hobby of playing video games since childhood, her music has a unique feel to it that is often described as an amalgamation of Japanese video game music and modern western orchestral arrangements/soundtracks. The heavy focus on strong melodies comes from that influence of 90s games, a time when composers had to work with a minimal amount of sound channels to achieve an impressionable result.
In March 2021 she wrote the soundtrack for the interactive short film Meant To Be: Meant to Be (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). The film was produced by the Dutch Open Filmstudio, as part of the launch of the intshorts.com platform.
After two years of work she finally released her album Approximate Symmetry - marking a huge milestone in the development of her unique writing style.
Her main musical influences are Yasunori Nishiki, Joe Hisaishi, Nobuo Uematsu, Yoko Shimomura, Yuka Kitamura, Kevin Penkin, 藤澤慶昌, Claude Debussy, Gustav Holst, Yasunori Mitsuda
Some of her composer friends are: Gisula, Felix Hirte, Michael Yang, Tiago Nugent, Alonso Urmeneta, Sami J. Laine, Ryu Soundworks
