Working on 9 pieces left : from Nocturnia #16 to Nocturnia #24.
The 24 Nocturnias are contemporary musical pieces for piano, borrowed from the romantic and the modern tradition. Nocturnia is a neologism that, on the one hand, pays tribute to Chopin's Nocturne musical form, and on the other hand to the Portuguese language, where the words ending with the suffixes inha or inho (pronounced "inia" and "iniou") represent diminutives with an affective bearing. Nocturnia could have written "Nocturninha".
The writing of the Nocturnias revolves around the translation of the stories of life through imaginative, evocative and impressionistic music. Purified, minimalist in some passages, the melodic aspiration remains pre-eminent and combined with a rather tonal harmonic approach using the full range of the piano. According to the pieces, the writing tends towards resolutely jazzy, pop or South-American influences. The movements are often Grave and Adagio, but at the same time soft and singing. Some times, heavy and painful. From time to time, fast and playful. The many modulations and rhythmic variations present, constitute as many trips to the most varied colours
