Daughter of famous designer Quasar Khanh and stylist Emmanuelle Khanh, Atlantique, whose full name is Atlantique Vénus Nguyen Manh Khanh, found her own artistic expression through song. She launched her career in 1987 with her first single, "Je n'aime personne", a mix of variety and synthpop, followed by another, "Poussée par le vent", two years later. It wasn't until 1990, however, that the Parisian singer released her first full-length, more soul and funk-oriented album, Trampolino, featuring "Peur d'un baiser" and above all "Les Eaux de Mars", a cover of Georges Moustaki's 1973 adaptation of Antonio Carlos Jobim's classic"Aguas de Março" . After a long break, she made a comeback by featuring on U.N.K.L.E's excellent debut album, alongside Radiohead and DJ Shadow.
