Terry Hoax was formed in Hannover, Germany in 1988 by drummer Hachy M. Hachmeister and vocalist Marcus Wichary, both formerly of Trashing Groove. The band’s first recordings were produced in the Peppermint Park Studios under Jens Krause, yielding the debut album Life In Times Of… in 1991. In 1992 the release of Freedom Circus followed, featuring the single "Policy of Truth"-a Depeche‑Mode cover. The next year’s Splinterproof displayed a harder, more rock‑oriented sound while maintaining melodic hooks. Den Kindern geht es gut, und sie lassen grüßen (1995) introduced experimental elements and marked the final studio album before the group’s initial split in 1996, after a farewell tour. A reunion tour in 2008 revived the original lineup for headline performances, and the band released Band of the Day in 2009, followed by Serious (2012) and Thrill! (2017). A 2025 album, Celebrate Nothing, was announced, and in 2023 guitarist Jenzzz Gallmeyer departed, with founding guitarist Martin Wichary rejoining in late 2024. The band’s catalog, spanning more than eight studio releases and several live and compilation appearances, has solidified its place in the German rock scene.
