David Karl William Wilcox, born July 13, 1949 in Montreal, Canada, was a guitarist and rock musician. Inspired by Elvis Presley at age six, he began playing guitar at seven and had his first live performance at twelve. In 1970, Wilcox joined Ian and Sylvia Tyson’s band, Great Speckled Bird, before starting his solo career in 1973 with the Rhythm Rockets. His debut album Out of the Woods was released in 1977, producing hits like "Do the Bearcat" and "Bad Apple". Wilcox signed with Capitol Records in 1982, re-releasing Out of the Woods, which reached gold status. Notable albums include My Eyes Keep Me in Trouble (1983), featuring "Downtown Came Uptown", and The Natural Edge (1989). In 1985, Wilcox was honored with the COCA Entertainer of the Year award.
