Andrea True Connection was founded in New York City in 1976. At the center is Andrea True, born on July 26, 1943 in Nashville, Tennessee. She is an American singer and former actress who is considered a defining figure of the international disco era of the 1970s. Andrea True began her music career in 1975 after a trip to Jamaica and a collaboration with producer Gregg Diamond enabled her to enter the music business. Andrea True Connection is not a fixed band structure, but a studio project with changing musicians under the direction of Gregg Diamond. With this project, Andrea True shapes the erotically charged, funk-accented disco sound of the time and performs internationally in clubs, discotheques and TV shows. The repertoire moves between disco, funk and pop. Stylistically, Andrea True Connection combines danceable grooves with provocative lyrics that attract attention. The commercial breakthrough came in 1976 with the single "More, More, More", which reached number 1 in the US disco charts and rose to number 4 in the Billboard Hot 100. The eponymous debut album More, More, More (1976) established the project internationally. This was followed by the album White Witch (1977), from which the single "What's Your Name, What's Your Number" was released and also achieved chart success. Further releases later fall short of this success, but secure Andrea True Connection a permanent place in disco history. Andrea True gradually retired from the music business in the 1980s. She died on November 7, 2011 in New York City.
