Juan Peña Fernández, known as El Lebrijano, was born on August 8, 1941, in Lebrija, Spain. He began his career combining singing with guitar playing and debuted in 1950 as a guitarist for Paquera de Jerez. His breakthrough came in 1964 when he won a contest in Mairena del Alcor, leading him to focus exclusively on singing. El Lebrijano collaborated with notable figures such as Antonio Gades and released influential albums, including Persecución (1976), Encuentros (1983) and Casablanca (1988). He was known for his innovative approach, blending flamenco with other musical styles. In 1979, he received the Premio Nacional de Cante from the Cátedra de Flamencología de Jerez. El Lebrijano passed away on July 13, 2016, in Sevilla, leaving behind a significant legacy in the world of flamenco music.
