George Morel, born 20 September 1967 in New York, is an American electronic music producer and disc jockey of Dominican descent. His early career began in New York clubs such as Red Zone, Palladium, Traxs and Save the Robots, where he honed his DJing skills before turning to production in 1989, co-writing and co-producing Dee Halloway’s single “Our Love Is Over” with David Cole. The following year he co-produced 2 in a Room’s single “Wiggle It”, which reached Number 1 on the US Billboard Dance chart. In 1992, George Morel joined Strictly Rhythm in an A&R capacity, releasing a series of 12-inch records titled Morel’s Grooves that showcased his Latin-house sound. His single “Let’s Groove” entered the US Dance chart at number 33 and the UK chart at number 42 in 1993, while “Officer Where’s Your Brother? (Get Her)” peaked at number 17 on the US Dance chart in 1995. He subsequently continued the Morel's Grooves series through the 1990s and 2000s across multiple volumes issued by Strictly Rhythm and other labels. George Morel earned six gold and two platinum records and received four Billboard Music Awards for his contributions to house music.
