Rapper, Director @ TGA Ent.
Oupa Jan Matlamela (September 17, 2000), professionally known as O.G Black, is a South African hip-hop artist, songwriter, and tailor, originally from Limpopo, Polokwane. In 2022, he co-founded The Gang Authority (TGA), a rap duo, with his producer Jo Hannies.
The musical style of O.G Black was instrumental in contributing to the Gangsta rap genre, a fact he openly acknowledged in his song "The Terminator". His interest in hip-hop was sparked in 2016, when friends from high school introduced him to classic hits from the genre. The influence of artists such as Eazy-E, 2pac, Hopsin, and various underground rappers played a significant role in shaping his deep affection for rap music. As a result, O.G. Black gained recognition within his neighborhood as a devoted hip-hop enthusiast. Six years later, he made the decision to pursue a career in the music industry, following a reunion with his childhood friend Lucky, who operates a home-based recording studio. His primary motivation for entering the industry was to leave his life on the streets behind. This decision led to his collaboration with Lucky's cousin, Jo Hannies, who recognized O.G Black's potential and provided him with an opportunity. Black seized this chance, making a strong first impression. Over time, Black and Hannies gained recognition in the neighborhood for their intense music, ultimately leading to the formation of The Gang Authority within a year.
Black initiated his industry impact through collaborations with artists such as Case Scripter, Lil Ash, and other local rappers, culminating in the release of a hardcore single with Jo Hannies, titled "The Calm Before The Storm" in 2023, which garnered widespread popularity until he concluded the first chapter with "The Terminator", making a significant impact within the neighborhood.
