Coming together eighteen months ago and aged in only their mid-teens, Macroscope are an alternative six piece from Pontefract who by their own admission are looking to do something…well, alternative. Harnessing the standard guitar, drums and bass was never going to be enough for these and so piano, keys and a sax add a real breadth to their sound. With influences ranging from Indie and punk through to acid jazz, their songs push the boundaries for a band at such an early stage in their development.
Having worked hard developing their sound and honing their live act on stages such as Belgrave Music Hall and Wakefield’s Long Division Festival, they have just released a debut double A side single ‘Drop Dead, Gorgeous/Grace’ which skilfully shows the diversity and range of the songs becoming increasingly familiar to those who’ve followed their live shows. Tracks recorded and produced at Leeds Music Hub by Leeds based producer Chris Mulligan.
This summer sees them expanding to the wider reaches of Yorkshire with gigs in York and performing to a 1,000 strong crowd at the inaugural Ulleskelf Viking Festival before returning for a hand-picked main support slot at a sold out Skylights show at The Wardrobe in Leeds.
They’ve attracted the attention of a host of promoters wanting to work with them and later this year will see them play their first major headline show in Leeds for FutureSound.
