Allison Moorer is an American country music singer-songwriter whose supple voice and worldly demeanour have endeared her to fans with songs that draw from a sometimes difficult life. She has had success with alternative country songs and albums including her most recent, with sister Shelby Lynne, titled 'Not Dark Yet', which reached number eight on Billboard's Americana/Folk Albums Chart in 2017.
Born in Alabama, she was 14 when her father killed her mother and then himself leaving her in the care of older sister Shelby Lynne. After Moorer completed high school, she moved to Nashville where her sister, with whom she'd sung harmonies as a child, had gone to pursue a professional career. In time, she followed a similar path and struck lucky when Robert Redford included her recording of 'A Soft Place to Fall' (which she wrote with Gwil Owen) on the soundtrack of his 1998 feature film 'The Horse Whisperer', earning an Academy Award nomination as Best Original Song.
Her debut album 'Alabama Song' was released the same year followed in 2000 by 'The Hardest Part'. More releases have followed including a concert album, 'Show' (2003), 'Getting Somewhere' (2006), 'Mockingbird' (2008), 'Crows' (2010), which reached number eleven on the Americana/Folk Chart, and 'Down to Believing' (2015), which went to number 15. Her single 'Days Aren't Long Enough', with then husband Steve Earle, was nominated for a 2007 Grammy Award as Best Country Collaboration With Vocals. Following the 2017 release of 'Not Dark Yet', Moorer and Lynne played Americana Fest 2017 and a tour took them across the southern U.S. states with dates set in the UK for 2018.
