It started as a joke, but then it became a concept. Luiz Amargo is Luiz Amaro Fortes, a songwriter and producer based in São Paulo, Brazil. His artistic alias ‘‘Amargo’’ means bitter in portuguese, and is the result of a not-so-clever bit of worldplay with his real name.
His music is about many things, but mostly it’s about how, sometimes, bitterness is not all bad - it can have a healing effect. Think of the bitter taste of medicine.
By developing a unique mixture of Brazilian Popular Musica (MPB) and Indie Rock, among other genres, Luiz Amargo writes songs that are dense and intimate and others that are ubeat and nonchalant - sometimes all of these things at the same time.
He has a degree on Communications from USP (Universidade de São Paulo) where he also took courses in theatre, literature and cinema, areas that greatly influence his musical work.
