Rowdy Rebel is the stage name of rapper Chad Marshall, a Brooklyn native who built his reputation as a member of the hip-hop crew GS9 before launching a solo career in 2014. Born on November 24, 1991, he was raised by Barbadian parents in Brooklyn's East Flatbush neighborhood and earned the nickname "rowdy" for his boisterous behavior as a child. He later joined GS9, a neighborhood collective composed of aspiring rappers, and appeared on GS9's Shmoney Shmurda mixtape in July 2014. Rowdy Rebel signed with Epic Records as a solo artist that same month and began releasing singles in October, making his studio debut with "Beam Jawn" before teaming up with his GS9 collaborator Bobby Shmurda for the gold-selling single "Computers." Rowdy Rebel also appeared alongside Chris Brown and Busta Rhymes on a star-studded remix of "Hot Nigga," a Number 6 hit single originally released by Bobby Shmurda earlier that year. Mixtapes like 2015's Remain Silent and 2016's Shmoney Keeps Calling helped maintain Rowdy Rebel's reputation within the Brooklyn hip-hop community, while an appearance on Pop Smoke's "Make It Rain" in 2020 marked Rowdy Rebel's first time gracing the Billboard charts, where the song peaked at Number 49 on the Hot 100 and Number 21 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
