Megafaun, an American psychedelic folk band based in Durham, North Carolina, formed in 2006. Brothers Brad Cook and Phil Cook, along with Joe Westerlund, first met at the H.O.R.D.E. festival in 1997 and later played together in DeYarmond Edison with Justin Vernon. After DeYarmond Edison broke up in 2006, they formed Megafaun. Their debut release, Bury the Square (2008), was followed by their second album, Gather, Form & Fly (2009), on the Hometapes label. They released two more albums: Heretofore (2010) and Megafaun (2011). They toured with notable acts such as The Mountain Goats, Bowerbirds, Akron/Family, and The Drive-By Truckers. In October 2012, they announced an indefinite hiatus.
