Created in 2015, Ofá is a poetic Afro-Bahian music band composed by the power trio Luan Tavares (guitar and voice), Paulo Pitta (saxophone and synthesizer) and João Paulo Rangel (drums). With reference to the Oxossi instrument, the Orixá hunter, “Ofá” symbolizes abundance, prosperity, balance and care for others, food and nature. The use of the name represents the rescue of these values and a tribute to the Orixá.
Treating contents such as altruism, love, self-knowledge, resistance and ancestry, the musical atmosphere brings together among its main references: music of African origin, which acts by triggering in the body the memory of an ignored identity due to the racist bases that formed Brazilian society; poetry, which brings out orality and intimacy with the poetic nature of the Portuguese language; progressive rock and freejazz, which help in the illustration of poetic discourse, through sound landscapes drawn through timbres, melodies and arrangements.
The group's trajectory includes: the EP “Além e mais” (launched in 2015 through the Incubadora Sonora project), participation in the UFBA Congress (2016 and 2017), ENEARTE (2017), in addition to the concert season (2017) with the singer Karla da Silva (ex-The Voice Brasil), ENECULT (2019), Bienal da UNE (2019) and performances in places frequented by Salvador's alternative public, such as: Rango Vegan, Casa Preta and Mouraria 53. Currently, the group is in the process of creating its first album and plans to release it in 2021.
