Vânia Mercury de Almeida, known professionally as Vânia Abreu, is a Brazilian singer born on May 30, 1967, in Salvador. She performed in local nightclubs and bars during her teenage years alongside her sister, Daniela Mercury. In 1986, Abreu began her professional career as a backup singer for the artist Gerônimo. She became a member of the ensemble Biss in 1994. Abreu released her self-titled debut studio album, Vania Abreu, in 1995. Her discography included the recordings Pra Mim (1996) and Seio da Baia (1999), which featured songs from the state of Bahia. In 2003, she released the album Eu Sou a Multidão. Abreu collaborated with Marcelo Quintanilha on the recording Pierrot & Colombina in 2006. She released the studio album Misteriosa Dona Esperança in 2007.
