Sugarfree is a Filipino alternative-pop rock band formed in Manila in 1999. Originally a trio featuring chief songwriter and frontman Ebe Dancel (vocals/guitar), Jal Taguibao (bass/backing vocals), and Mitch Singson (drums), the group broke through with their debut album Sa Wakas (2003), followed by successive hits on Dramachine (2004), Tala‑Arawan (2006), a live orchestral performance (2008), and Mornings and Airports (2009) under EMI/PolyEast . Their songs—like “Hari ng Sablay” (2009), “Makita Kang Muli” (2009), and “’Wag Ka Nang Umiyak” (2006) —became OPM staples, earning them multiple NU Rock and Awit awards . After disbanding in 2011 due to creative differences, members pursued separate paths: Dancel embarked on a solo career, while Taguibao shifted into academia and earned a Ph.D. in political science. In February 2020, the band reformed as a duo—Taguibao (now lead vocals/guitar) and Kaka Quisumbing (drums)—and released the single “Nagkita Muli,” signaling a fresh chapter in their legacy .
