Meic Stevens, born Louis Michael James Stevens in 1942 in Solva, Pembrokeshire, United Kingdom, is a Welsh singer-songwriter. He started writing songs and performing during his art studies in the mid-1950s. In 1964, Stevens was discovered by disc-jockey Jimmy Savile at Cardiff University, leading to his first single "Did I Dream / I Saw a Field" under Decca Records. Despite initial setbacks, including depression, he returned to Wales and began translating his songs into Welsh, releasing several EPs with Wren Records. In 1969, Stevens signed with Warner Bros. Records, and released the album Outlander (1970). Although commercially unsuccessful, he continued producing music, notably releasing an entirely Welsh-language album, Gwymon (1972). Throughout the 1970s and beyond, Stevens released numerous albums on labels like Sain and Crai, contributing significantly to Welsh folk rock.
