South Memphis native Bella Baumfree better known by her stage name MDS Bella is a recording artist, song writer, entrepreneur, and community activist.
She often speaks about her Memphis musical roots in her songs, citing several Memphis rap pioneers as leaving a deep imprint on her artistry. Bella delivers a trademark vocal sound dubbed by music industry vets as an aggressive whisper. Her signature southern low & raspy delivery is not her only unique trait. Lyrically, MDS Bella is constantly praised for her impressive melodic flow. She refuses to succumb to the idea that, for female rappers, only sex and raunchiness sell. While her music includes many elements of urban life, frequently she devotes her rhymes to social ills and promoting positivity in the Black community. “She doesn’t shy away from political and socially conscious rap. Particularly rap that highlights the mistreatment of African Americans”, her manager says of her.
Bella continues to build her reputation as an artist on the rise through the constant stream of independently released tracks like the unapologetic single, "No Abra La Puerta", and the authentically southern hit, "Real". Bella is on the brink of something really big in the rap game, music driven by truth.
