Canadian songwriter, musician and performer born January 8, 1964 in St. Catharines, Ontario, Ron Sexsmith is renowned for his fine melodies and arrangements. He began writing songs in his teens and performed in the Toronto area before releasing his first independent recordings in the 1980s. He attracted critical attention with the release of his 1995 self-titled album, produced by Mitchell Froom, which showcases his soft, melancholy voice, keen sense of melody and introspective lyrics. Since then, he has released more than fifteen studio albums, including Other Songs (1997), Cobblestone Runway (2002) with its signature track "Gold in Them Hills", and Retriever (2004). In 2005, he collaborated with multi-instrumentalist and producer Don Kerr on the album Destination Unknown. Through new encounters and different labels and producers, Ron Sexsmith manages to maintain a high level of quality in his compositions, as evidenced by the albums Exit Strategy of the Soul (2008), Long Player, Late Bloomer (2011), Forever Endeavour (2013) and Carousel One (2015). Esteemed by his peers, from Paul McCartney to Chris Martin to Elvis Costello, the Canadian songwriter is consolidating his reputation as a discreet but respected artist. Recognized for his ability to blend pop, folk and soft rock into elegant, emotive songwriting, often imbued with nostalgia, subtle humor and humanity. Despite modest commercial success, he enjoys a solid fan base and lasting recognition within the international music community. Following the release of The Last Rider in 2017, his next album Hermitage was released in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, preventing its author from going out to meet his public. He then recorded The Vivian Line (2023), a chamber pop opus followed by Hangover Terrace in 2025.
