Scurra is an anonymous, masked artist, and co-founder of Maskeraid Music Entertainment. Alongside his producer Steeze, the pair make music reminiscent of late 90’s boom-bap Hip-Hop, with heavier percussion, and an abrasive flare. With influences ranging from the likes of Griselda, The Alchemist, Earl Sweatshirt, $uicideBoy$ and even Three 6 Mafia; This rapper/producer duo is unafraid to blend sounds and wear their influences on their sleeves.
Scurra’s voice is easily identifiable. It cuts through production and invokes emotion. From song to song you can hear pain, anger, and a melancholic sadness. With themes ranging from drug dealing, struggles with addiction, and painful loss. That, paired with changes of inflection from song to song leave you feeling as if you have lived his experiences. You can truly hear the voice of a battered and tormented artist.
The voice of Scurra is brilliantly melded with Steeze’s raw and powerful production. Many songs utilize traditional drums, live samples, Memphis vocal cuts, and heavy kicks and 808’s. You can almost get a feel of Steeze’s artistry through his witty vocal chops, as well as weird sounds scattered across the production. It’s clear Steeze is unafraid to try anything and make it a beautiful piece of composition. Together the pair make an amazing masked rap collective.
