What started as a series of casual jamming sessions among three secondary school friends ended up in the formation of a band; Bunkface. Formed in 2005, caught public attention through their participation in the hit battle of the band reality TV show Blastoff 3. The year 2006 proved to be an exciting one for Bunkface.
Even though Bunkface didn’t win the competition, Malaysian direct broadcast satellite (DBS) Pay TV service, ASTRO give the band a chance by producing Bunkface first english hit single “Silly Lilly”, with catchy, fresh sound and promotion help form ASTRO, the song written by the vocalist of the band itself (SAM), made it to the local radio charts.
After garnering a truckload of new experiences, Bunkface began writing more and more new songs. In December 2007, Bunkface released their first EP titled “Lesson of the Season”.
The next stepping stone is when SAM (vocalist) decided to write a song in Malay language (Malaysia’s first language) . Bunkface first Malay single title “ Situasi ” (2008) has brought the band to another level as the song become a phenomenon in Malaysia music scene.
As a 100% independent band, Bunkface only released single after single, but all the singles hit the chart and was a trending in the country, finally after releasing 6 singles, finally Bunkface first album title “Phobia Phoney” was released in 2010, it is the band’s first album and it was a huge success untill “Bunkface” became a phenomenon at the time in Malaysia and also accross Southeast Asia. With a taste of Pop-Punk and Alternative Rock,
Bunkface second album titled “ Bunk Not Dead” was released in 2012 with the new technology “Augmented Reality” (AR), (is a live, copy, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data). Again,
Bunkface repeat the success from the first album, even though with a high competition in rock music scene due to pop music trend in 2011 and 2012.
Under their own production team, Bunkface Production, Bunkface keep trying to produce a high quality of live musics, new sounds, energetic performances to appreciate the supports from the fans and trying to make a changes in Malaysia music industry.
Bunkface has been given recognition for their contribution in Malaysia’s music industry with a lot of awards, they also has been given a trust from MTV ASIA to be part of MTV WORLD STAGE LIVE IN MALAYSIA 2010 by putting Bunkface alongside with A-List international artist like Tokio Hotel, Katy Perry and Wondergirls.
Bunkface’s mission is to bring their music to the international levels.
