The Happenings, a pop music group from Paterson, New Jersey, formed in 1961. Initially known as "The Four Graduates," the original lineup consisted of Bob Miranda, David Libert, Tom Giuliano, and Ralph DiVito. The band's breakthrough came with their unique cover style, which involved rich vocal harmonies and upbeat tempos marked by prominent percussion. Their first major hit was "See You in 2" (1966), a cover of the Tempos' 1959 song, which peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed on the charts for 14 weeks. The group followed this success with another chart-topping single, "I Got Rhythm" (1967), a cover of the George Gershwin/Ira Gershwin classic, which also reached number 3 and remained on the charts for 13 weeks. Both songs achieved gold record status by 1969. The Happenings had nine Billboard Hot 100 singles hits from 1966 to 1968, including covers of "Go Away Little Girl" (1967) and "My Mammy" (1967), both of which also achieved gold record status. Their last Hot 100 hit was "Hare Krishna" (1969). The band continued to perform with lead singer Bob Miranda as the only remaining original member, showcasing their enduring influence in pop music.
