John Francis Oscar Arpin, born on December 3, 1936, in Port McNicoll, Ontario, was a Canadian pianist and composer known for his ragtime compositions. He studied piano at The Royal Conservatory of Music, earning his diploma in 1953, and later attended the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto. Arpin's career included numerous performances and tours worldwide. His discography features over sixty albums, including Rags to Riches (1987), Cakewalk: The Music of Jouis Moreau Gottschalk (1990), and Bach Meets Rogers & Hammerstein (1990). Arpin was nominated three times for the Juno Awards and won the Scott Joplin Award in 1998. He composed "Jogging Along", the theme music for CBC's Morningside, and a suite that won first prize at the Second Yamaha International Original Concert in Tokyo. Arpin passed away on November 8, 2007, in Toronto, Ontario.
