Between historical research and modernity, Emmanuelle Dauvin gives new life to an old practice not having been used since the eighteenth century, accompanying herself with the organ pedalboard while playing the violin. This forgotten historical practice is a wonderful way to open up the solo violin repertoire as it allows one to play alone, the pieces for violin and bass.
She has just recorded a CD that juxtaposes pieces by J.S. Bach and Heinrich Biber, both for solo violin alone and pieces with bass. The recording, issued on the 14th of May 2021, was a France Musique’s choice.
« A recording that very much transcends its arguably ‘experimental’ nature. Emmanuelle Dauvin’s personal development and revival of a practice known to musical history but apparently lost to us today is strikingly effective »
