Biography

American hip-hop duo EarthGang combines the flair of Southern hip-hop with a healthy dose of psychedelia, funk, and soul. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, the group consists of rappers Johnny "Olu O. Fann" Venus and WowGr8, aka Doctur Dot, who created the project in 2008 during their high school days. Influenced by artists such as the Ohio Players, Madonna, Richard Pryor, and Curtis Mayfield, they made waves with their debut mixtape, The Better Party, in 2010, paving the way for standout albums like Shallow Graves for Toys (2013) and Strays with Rabies (2015). Simultaneously, EarthGang played a pivotal role in the creation of the collective Spillage Village alongside talents like JID, 6LACK, and Mereba. In 2017, J. Cole's Dreamville Records signed them, leading to their ambitious EP trilogy: Rags (2017), Robots (2017), and Royalty (2018). Their 2019 magnum opus, Mirrorland, was a psychedelic exploration featuring Young Thug, T-Pain, and Kehlani. The album marked their first entry in the Billboard 200, peaking at number 40. Collaborative efforts continued with Dreamville's Revenge of the Dreamers III (2019) and Spillage Village's Spilligion in 2020. In 2022, EarthGang pushed their eclectic sound even further on their fourth full-length album Ghetto Gods, which featured guest spots by J. Cole, Future, and Ari Lennox.
