Nathan Johnston is an Irish singer/songwriter, producer and recording artist hailing from the Mullingar, Ireland.
After 6 years performing under his stage name with soul-pop project 'Sion Hill,' and touring Europe with the likes of Pete Doherty, A-ha and Alice Merton along with sold out shows across Germany, the U.K. and most recently, 'The Workmans Club' in Dublin, Johnston bought back the rights to new songs from his former record label and has now gone independent.
2022 saw the release of a brand new collaboration record with 'Angels of Libra' a 10 piece soul outfit from Hamburg with a sound reminiscent of Air, Khruangbin or Ennio Morricone.
The first single off the album is the moody and seductive “Angel Of Libra” which was released on June 3rd 2022 with Berlin-based label Waterfall Records, and received heavy airplay on Radio Eins (Radio 1) in Germany. The second single, 'All Your Love' was released on August 26th and was featured in multiple playlists on Spotify garnering half a million streams along with strong radio play across the U.S. & Germany.
The full 10 track record, 'Nathan Johnston & The Angels of Libra’ was released on November 4th, 2022 and received stellar reviews, multiple 'Album of the Year' credits and a sold out release show in the Molotow Club in Hamburg.
The band went on to release a second album in 2023 which was mainly focused on instrumentals but featured Johnston on the title track 'Revelations.' March 2023 saw the band tour to sold out crowds around Germany.
Johnston has also been working on some new solo music - some of which was recorded in a cottage in Clifden in the west of Ireland with producer Kevin Brennan, other songs have been self produced and feature a more acoustic, laid back sound than that of Johnston's earlier work under the Sion Hill moniker. The first single, 'All The Stages' was released on May 3rd 2024.
A new Angels of Libra album is also underway with recordings taking place in Rux’s ‘Yeah Yeah Yeah!’ studios in Hamburg.
