Jesse Witney is a singer-songwriter based in the Bundjalung region of NSW Australia who blends acoustic/roots indie/soul with Brazilian music, singing in both English and Portuguese. His debut album, Animal Cities, was recorded in Rio de Janeiro and Melbourne and released digitally and on vinyl in March 2023. It has received national airplay on radio stations such as JJJ, Radio National, RRR, 2SER, PBS Radio, as well as community radio stations across the country. The Darkness has been aired multiple times on ABC’s RAGE. Highlights of his Australian performances include the Woodford Folk Festival, Splendour in the Grass, Island Vibe and the National Folk Festival, as well as opening for artists such as Nahko and Babe Rainbow.
His live show includes nylon and electric guitar wizardry, foot beats with his own invention “The Dance Box”, harmonica, melodica and looping, topped off with a Jeff Buckley-like voice. Jesse’s live performances are complex, intimate, gritty, and exhilarating.
