Jack de Nijs, known professionally as Jack Jersey, was born on July 18, 1941, in Tjimahi, West Java, Indonesia. He began his musical journey at age seven with a ukulele and later formed several bands, including The Dixie Stampers and The Four Sweeters. In 1951, de Nijs moved to the Netherlands and continued his music career with Jack & Woody, releasing hits like "Paulette" which topped charts in Singapore and Peru. After a brief hiatus from music to pursue hotel management, he returned to the industry as a producer and composer. His first hit as a producer was "Oh...Antoinette" by Leo den Hop. In 1973, de Nijs adopted the stage name Jack Jersey and released his first English single "I'm Calling", which became a major hit in the Netherlands and Belgium. Throughout the 1970s, he achieved international success with songs like "In The Still of the Night" and "Sri-Lanka ... My Shangri-La". He also recorded live albums in Nashville and collaborated with various artists, including Nick MacKenzie and André Moss. Jersey's work contributed to selling over twenty million records during his career. He passed away on May 26, 1997. Notable posthumous releases include His Greatest Hits & Asian Dreams (2007).
