Biography

Singing duo The Nooran Sisters aka Sultana Nooran (born 14 June 1992) and Jyoti Nooran (born 24 February 1994) are among the leading exponents of Sufi; the devotional and ceremonial music of the Sufis, often described as the mystical dimension of Islam. Raised in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India, they received musical training under the tutelage of their father Ustad Gulshan Mir (or Meer) – grandson of Bibi Nooran, a renowned Sufi singer, and son of Swarn Nooran, a Sufi singer of the 1970s – from an early age and first found fame on MTV India's MTV Sound Trippin with the 2012 song "Tung Tung." They broke into Bollywood two years later with "Patakha Guddi," created with A.R. Rahman for the Indian Hindi-language road drama film Highway. The chart-topping song earned the sisters two Mirchi Music Awards in 2015: Upcoming Female Vocalist Of The Year and Vocalist (Female) Of The Year, as well as the Best Music Debut award of the Global Indian Music Academy Awards and the Best Female Playback Singer award of the Screen Awards. In 2015, they released their debut album Yaar Gariban Da and have since added their voices to movies including 2016 sports-drama flick Sultan, epic romantic fantasy film Mirzya, 2019 drama film Bharat, and 2022 family comedy-drama film Raksha Bandhan.
