The Sky Kings was an American country music supergroup formed in 1991 in Nashville, Tennessee. The original lineup featured John Cowan of New Grass Revival, Bill Lloyd of Foster & Lloyd, Patrick Simmons of the Doobie Brothers, and Rusty Young of Poco. Initially known as Four Wheel Drive, the group recorded an album for RCA Nashville that was shelved until 2014, when it was released as 1992. After signing with Warner Bros. Records in 1993, the ensemble changed its name to the Sky Kings due to trademark issues. Simmons left the group that same year to rejoin the Doobie Brothers following a tour. As a trio, the band released three singles, including “Picture Perfect”, which reached number 52 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. The group became inactive in 1997 before their eponymous studio album could be issued. In 2000, Rhino Handmade released the collection From Out of the Blue, which compiled their unreleased Warner Bros. recordings and demos.
