Biography

Sydney's multiple award-winning electronic hitmakers Rüfüs du Sol – known simply as Rüfüs until 2018 – formed in Sydney, Australia in November 2010 and released their debut Rüfüs EP in January 2011. The Rüfüs Blue EP arrived the following April, with the band setting out their stall as purveyors of pulsing, sun-dappled electronica and electronic pop. For their debut 2013 album, Atlas, the trio – comprising vocalist and guitarist Tyrone Lindqvist, keyboard player Jon George and drummer James Hunt – broke through to seize the Number 1 spot on Australia's ARIA Albums Chart, also picking up a nomination for Australian Album of the Year at the J Awards of 2013. Three years later, Rüfüs du Sol enjoyed another burst of chart success with their second album Bloom, which they recorded in Berlin and which also peaked at Number 1 in Australia. The LP yielded their first Top 40 single, "You Were Right," and was later certified platinum in 2018. That same year, the group changed their name to Rüfüs Du Sol and released their third album Solace, which was recorded in California and peaked at Number 2 in Australia. The album featured the popular singles "No Place," and "Treat You Better" and in November 2019 was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 2020 Awards, while also receiving three ARIA nominations in 2019.
