Rosalia Vila Tobella was born in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, near Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain), on September 25, 1992. A guitarist since the age of nine, pianist at sixteen and singer, she immersed herself in the flamenco tradition handed down by Camarón de la Isla, which she studied for eight years under the tutelage of Jose Miguel Vizcaya. While preparing her thesis on the genre, she discovered electronic sounds through the tracks of James Blake. In 2017, under the stage name Rosalía, she recorded her debut album Los Angeles with producer and guitarist Raul Refree. This acoustic album, which also includes a cover of Bonnie Prince Billy's "I See a Darkness", reached number nine on the Spanish bestseller list. Rosalía then sought to fuse her flamenco artistry with contemporary sounds on her second album El Mar Querer (2018), produced by El Guincho. The ballad "Malamente", taken from it, proves a great success, with a runner-up spot on the Spanish best-seller list and two Latin Grammy Awards. James Blake invites her on the track "Barefoot in the Park", while "Di Mi Nombre", which appears in Pedro Almodovar's film Douleur et gloire, tops the Spanish sales charts. In 2019, she collaborates with reggaeton star J Balvin on the track "Con Altura" , which reaches number one in Spain. The following singles, "Aute Culture", "Milionària" and "Yo x Ti, Tu x Mi", recorded with Ozuna, were equally well received in the same year. In 2020, the singer further diversified her musical universe, recording alongside rapper Travis Scott on "TKN " (no. 1 in Spain in 2020), pop singer Billie Eilish on "Lo Vas a Olvidar" (no. 15 in 2021) and RnB singer The Weeknd on "La Fama" (no. 1 in 2021). This track was included on her new album, Motomami, which was released in 2022 and reached number 15 in France. In spring 2023, she and Rauw Alejandro released the RR EP (tracks "Beso", "Vampiros", "Promesa"), before the couple announced their separation in July 2023. In November 2023, she teamed up with Björk for "Oral", a charity track whose proceeds were donated to the fight against intensive salmon farming in Iceland. After a year 2024 devoted more to performing and preparing the next chapter, Rosalía ushered in the LUX era at the end of 2025: she revealed the single "Berghain " (with Björk and Yves Tumor) and then released her fourth album, Lux, on November 7, 2025, a conceptual work in four "movements" recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra and conceived as a meditation on verticality, the sacred and "feminine mysticism". The project welcomes guests from fado and flamenco (Carminho, Estrella Morente, Sílvia Pérez Cruz) to North American voices (Yahritza), confirming a trajectory that crosses languages and stages while retaining her distinctive signature as producer and author.
