New album UTOPIA is out now!
Founded by pianist and composer Xavier Faro, the Toulouse-based quartet MEAJAM offers a singular style of music, deeply rooted in contemporary jazz, with dreamlike and cinematic accents. With a resolutely melodic approach, the group explores a narrative and evocative musical universe, drawing influences from New York jazz, pop, classical music, and film scores. After their debut album Dans l’herbe in 2014 on Cristal Records — inspired by the landscapes of Quercy — and L’envol in 2019, a reflection on exile and freedom, MEAJAM will release their new album Utopia on April 4, 2025, under the Mazeto Square label.
Driven both by a need for carefree expression and a sense of humanistic urgency, MEAJAM tells, through this new opus, the story of UTOPIA — an entity that, despite its human condition, reconnects with its environment: the fascination with a giant, enveloping oak tree, the hypnotic song of a stream, the warm or glacial breath of the wind... A return to nature that becomes an initiatory journey. Throughout the album, MEAJAM subtly questions humanity’s place on our planet — its uniqueness and its recklessness. Are we wonderful children or ruthless executioners?
The four musicians, who have known each other personally and musically through many shared projects over the past two decades, continue with this new album along the musical path proposed by pianist Xavier Faro, while carefully crafting a collective group sound.
This time, the quartet broadens its exploration by inviting two exceptional musicians to join them on two tracks: flutist Ludivine ISSAMBOURG and singer and vocalist Clémence LAGIER. Their contributions bring a stunning and natural collaboration to the album.
