Charlotte Cardin is a Canadian songwriter whose diverse pop music is influenced by folk, electronica, R&B, and jazz. Born to French-speaking parents in Montreal, Quebec, on November 9, 1994, she worked as a model during her teenage years before competing in La Voix, the French-Canadian version of The Voice, in 2013. A Top 4 finalist, Charlotte Cardin followed her time on the TV show by appearing on Garou's 2013 release Au Milieu de Ma Vie, which peaked at Number 5 in France and Number 2 in Belgium. Her debut EP, Big Boy, was released in 2016, including songs performed in both French and English. The EP's bilingual material learned Charlotte Cardin two nominations for the SOCAN Songwriting Prize in 2017, with "Big Boy" receiving a nomination in the English category and "Faufile" receiving a nomination in the French category. The first artist in SOCAN history to receive nominations in both categories in a single year, she signed with Atlantic Records and released her second EP, Main Girl, in 2017. Cardin received a pair of Juno Award nominations for "Breakthrough Artist of the Year" and "Songwriter of the Year" in 2018, then released the singles "Passive Aggressive" and "Daddy" in 2020. Both songs later appeared on her full-length debut album, Phoenix, which was released in 2021 and reached Number 1 on the Canadian Albums chart. Phoenix was named "Anglophone Album of the Year" at the 43rd Félix Awards later that year, and a second full-length record, 99 Nights, followed in 2023.
