New Single 'Congratulations' Out Now!!
Zach Bellas is the name of the band. And they truly are a band. A three-piece national touring alternative rock powerhouse with an axe to grind. After all, they officially formed at the absolute worst time to start a traveling rock band…Right before a global pandemic that shut down the entire world and decimated the live music industry.
All was not lost however. The trio, who met and began performing in Baltimore, Maryland of all places, would spend the better part of the next three years fighting and clawing their way to a modest level of success in the independent rock world. Steadily releasing music as quickly as they could get it finished. Scraping together tours with what little venues were able to open at the time. And earning each fan one at a time. Brick by brick…
Slightly psychedelic and punk adjacent. These are the words that the alternative rock trio known as Zach Bellas use to describe their sound. Their newest single ‘Congratulations’ is the perfect example of their efforts to hone in on this new philosophy.
Recorded just outside of Baltimore, Maryland by the incomparable Frank Marchand and released on the Washington, DC based recording label SMB Records on March 28th, 2025, ‘Congratulations’ comes screaming out of the gate with precise harmonies, big drums, and very loud guitars.
The very first lyric sets the tone ‘Congratulations, you have just struck my last nerve’. From there, we learn that there has been an intense parting of ways between two people who do not, under any circumstances, want to be together any longer. ‘Tell me, would it make you happy if I died?’ is the question asked over and over again in the chorus as this relationship has clearly reached the end of the rope.
Around the 2:18 mark, the song takes a wild turn and the term slightly psychedelic begins to make sense as the band goes through a short interlude that includes backwards guitars, swirling wind noises, keyboard sequencers, and a host of other sounds and noises that take the listener out the original context of the song before barreling back into the chorus full bore. Finally, there is an epic guitar solo that was recorded live in one take and really brings the song home through the final chorus.
'Congratulations' was one of those songs that just came from above and was written, as most of the best songs are, in about five minutes. The chorus just came out of nowhere while working on a completely different song and all of a sudden the whole thing was finished. We knew we had something special when we started playing it live and getting such an amazing reaction from the crowd. We put all other projects on hold to rush this one out. It's that good.
