Código is a Bachata band based in London, United Kingdom. Previously known as ‘Clave Musical’, the band was founded in 2013 by Santiago, José, Dario and Andres. During that period Clave Musical was formed mainly for the purpose of socialising between friends by sharing the art of music together. The Bachata band renamed their group to Código in 2016 for the drive to formally establish a committed Bachata group that will take their hobby towards a professional daily occupation. Hence today Código has 2 additional members Tristan and Bernardo, where Tristan is the backing vocalist, percussionist & keyboard player and Bernardo is the bass player of the group.
Código also provide live Bachata music to all kinds of events. Código have a wide repertoire of Modern Bachata, Traditional, Urban, Fusion and classics that fit any type of audience. Not only does Código bring joy to a Latin audience but also to a non-Spanish speaking audience by performing English spoken songs like “All of Me” by John Legend in a sensual Bachata rhythm. Código have performed in many well-known Festivals such as LatinoLife Festival, La Clave Winter Festival, Symposium Bachata & Kizomba Festival (Edinburgh, Scotland), Plymouth Bachata Festival and soon in Summer will perform at the Helsinki Bachata Festival in Finland. Not to mention the numerous occasions performed at private events such, Miss Latina UK Coronations, Hispanic Clubs like Bar Salsa Temple, Radio Stations, Hotels and Sweet 15’s.
Santiago (Ecuadorian) is the lead singer, song writer, composer, producer and second guitarist of the band. José (Bolivian) is the lead guitarist, producer, composer and backing vocalist. Bernardo (Brazilian) is the musical director of the band, bass player and live sound technician. Dario (Spanish with Ecuadorian background) is the percussionist ‘bongos’, sound technician on stage and social media management. Tristan (British) is the percussionist ‘La Güira’, backing vocalist, keyboard player and sound technician on stage.
In 2016, Código released their first single ‘Sin Tu Amor’ (Without Your Love) which achieved fanatics not only within London, but also fans across South America and certain countries in Central America such as Dominican Republic. This is where Código’s first steps in reaching an international audience took place. Sin Tu Amor is a romantic Bachata song portraying the love and affection a man has for his woman, and that loneliness will overtake him if he's left alone without her love.
Once Código achieved this exposure, Santiago networked with many influencers within the Bachata genre and came across a well-known Bachata producer called Mayinbito which worked in the musical production of Código’s singles. Código then released a second single ‘Su Final’ (Its Ending) in 2017 featuring an important artist currently in the Bachata genre called Ralphy Dreamz. In 2018, Código then released Explicame (Explain to me) a song where we combined the feminine vocals of Gessica Mondragon to give the single a lovely story behind a relationship that cannot go back to their desired emotions.
Código then released the single which broke the national barrier and became immensely popular in Europe and put them forward to more exposure in the Bachata scene “Dejando Huellas” (Leaving Traces). Dejando Huellas has a lyric that states and describes the following meaning to the song: "It is love, what you and I feel day and night," is the fervent expression of a bohemian charmer to his beloved. With no previous fortune in engaging with whom he perceived to be his soulmate, he soon realises that his whole outlook on life had been distorted and thereby, would shift his paradigm, leading to encounter with who'd now be his one and only lover. For her love and kisses, he is willing to pursue the utmost, with his 'sincere love' all that would remain, leaving traces of all previous heartbreak and disillusions behind. Dejando Huellas reached countries in Europe and Asia including Japan. Also, the single was appreciated by Bachata well-known dancers by doing choreographies to Dejando Huellas. Código also gained exposure to achievements and were invited to many live performances with their first music video Dejando Huellas. Código were nominated in the LUKAS Awards (Latin United Kingdom Awards) for Best Tropical Act of the year and came runners up in their first Awards Ceremony.
Código’s latest hot release “Lo Nuestro” (Ours) marked their existence even further in the Latin scene. Lo Nuestro Music video achieved over 700K views in YouTube in 2022 and are gradually growing and aiming for their first million views in YouTube, they are currently being featured in the “Top 2022 Bachatas” playlist.
