The Sattalites, a Canadian reggae group, was founded in Toronto, Ontario in 1981. The band began as a music school and evolved into a collaborative ensemble of musicians. Fergus Hambleton and Jo Jo Bennett, founding members, met while performing together and started the Sattalites Music School to spread their influence. The Sattalites signed with Solid Gold Records early in their career and released several albums including Sattalites (1985), Live via Sattalites (1987), and Miracles (1989). Notable songs include "Gimme Some Kinda Sign", which reached number 44 on Can Pop and number 9 on Can AC, and "Too Late to Turn Back Now", which reached number 17 on Can AC and Number 1 on CanCon. The band performed at significant events such as Edgefest in 1987 and 1990, and were the only Canadian band invited to play at Jamaica's Sunsplash before 25,000 people. They also won two Juno Awards and the Best R&B/Reggae Recording at the 1988 CASBY Awards.
