Born in Houston, Texas on July 8, 1980, Kendrick Scott is a jazz drummer, bandleader, and composer. He is also the founder of the World Culture Music label. He became interested in the drums when he was young and attended High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, where he went on to win numerous awards and accolades. Upon graduation, he was awarded a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts with a major in Music Education. After graduating from Berklee in 2002, Kendrick Scott performed with jazz icons such as Pat Metheny, Dianne Reeves, Kenny Garret, Joe Lavano, and the Jazz Crusaders. He formed his own group, which he called Kendrick Scott Oracle, and released the debut album, The Source, in 2007. The band’s line-up would change with each release, although Kendrick Scott’s musical vision would remain focused throughout his career. The band’s catalog also includes the albums Reverence (2010), Conviction (2013), We Are Drum (2015), and A Wall Becomes a Bridge (2019). During his time with his own band, Kendrick Scott continued to work with other artists including Terence Blanchard, the MJF All-Star Band, and the Charles Lloyd Quartet.
