African Head Charge, a psychedelic dub ensemble from the United Kingdom, was formed in 1981 by percussionist Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah. The group's debut album, My Life in a Hole in the Ground, was recorded at Berry Street Studio in London and released under Adrian Sherwood's On-U Sound label. African Head Charge featured a rotating cast of members, including original members of Creation Rebel, Undivided Roots, and Ruff Cutt, as well as notable musicians like George Oban, Bruce Smith, and Steve Beresford. The group released several albums, including Environmental Studies (1982), Drastic Season (1983), and Songs of Praise (1990). Their work often featured iconic sleeve-design artwork by photographer Kishi Yamamoto. All of their early work has been re-released as double albums on vinyl and CD.
