Vardan Mamikonian, born in Armenia, is a pianist who began his musical journey at the Yerevan School of Music at age six. He continued his studies at the Moscow Conservatory and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory under Valery Kastelsky, followed by further training with Lazar Berman. Mamikonian's breakthrough came in 1981 when he won First Prize at the Balis Dvarionas Piano Competition in Vilnius. Subsequent wins included the Lefébure Competition in Saint-Germain-en-Laye (1990) and the World Music Masters Competition in Monte Carlo (1992). In 1991, Mamikonian emigrated to France and performed extensively with notable orchestras such as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, and Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. He recorded for radio, television, and the German label Orfeo, receiving international press awards. His performances included venues like Carnegie Hall in New York, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, and Wigmore Hall in London.
