Biography

R&B and gospel singer Ray Dalton was born on May 10, 1991. He is best known as the featured vocalist on the Macklemore & Ryan Lewis hit “Can’t Hold Us”. Born in Washington, Dalton was encouraged to sing at the age of 6 by his music teacher. He joined the Seattle Children’s Choir and continued singing up through his high school years and beyond. In 2010, he appeared on Dyno Jamz’ single “Kingdom Come”. Producer/songwriter/rapper Ryan Lewis, inspired by hearing Dalton’s voice, reached out via Facebook and asked Dalton to collaborate with him and rapper Macklemore.  Their first single together – released as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Ray Dalton – was “Can’t Hold Us”. Released in August, 2011, the single was included on the Macklemore & Ray Lewis album The Heist. “Can’t Hold Us” became a worldwide hit, climbing to the Number 1 spot in the United States, Australia, Sweden, and Poland, and landing in the Top 5 in Switzerland, Scotland, Norway, the Netherlands, Israel, Ireland, Austria, and many other countries. The “Can’t Hold Us” video was nominated for a 2014 Grammy Award for Best Music Video. Dalton released his first solo single, “So Emotional” (mixed by Ryan Lewis), in 2012. His next solo single, “If You Fall”, was released in 2017. “Bass Down”, his third single, was released in 2018. In 2020, he released the single “In My Bones”.
