Kate Taylor, born on August 15, 1949, in Boston, Massachusetts, is an American singer-songwriter. She grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where her father Isaac Taylor was dean of the medical school at the University of North Carolina. At age 15, Kate Taylor formed her first band and secured a record deal with Atlantic Records four years later. Her debut album Sister Kate, produced by Peter Asher, was released in 1971. Her second album, the self-titled Kate Taylor, was produced by her brother James Taylor and Lew Hahn on Columbia Records in 1978. The following year, she released It's in There, produced by Barry Beckett at Muscle Shoals studios. Taylor has continued to release albums reflecting her artistic vision, including Beautiful Road (2003), Kate Taylor Live at The Cutting Room (2005), and Fair Time! (2009). She has also contributed to compilation albums such as Strong Hand of Love, Orphans of God, and In Harmony: A Sesame Street Record. Her most recent release is Why Wait! from 2021.
