Canasta, a Chicago-based chamber pop sextet, was formed when frontman Matt Priest and violinist Elizabeth Lindau invited friends to join after Priest lost his job. The band's diverse musical backgrounds led to their first EP, Find the Time, released in 2003 and mastered by Keith Cleversley of The Flaming Lips. Their debut full-length album, We Were Set Up, followed in 2005 on indie label Broken Middle C and was produced by Ted Cho. The album received critical acclaim, with Ned Raggett of AllMusic praising its ambition and range. In 2010, Canasta released their second full-length album, The Fakeout, the Tease & the Breather, on RWIM Chicago. Their song "Slow Down Chicago" was notably featured in the trailer for the film Diminished Capacity.
